Details

The derelict houseboat Ionia, on the marshes near Aldeburgh, Suffolk is the focus of this hand-burnished linocut. HJJ came across the beached and blackened hulk two years prior to its removal in 1974, but it would be over 40 years before the photographs he took resurfaced to inspire this 2017 print. The Ionia had previously inspired renowned artists as diverse as L.S Lowry and Kathleen Hale who featured the boat as a holiday home for her feline family in Orlando: A Seaside Holiday
