Andrew Bird is a contemporary painter. He studied at Bradford College of Art when he gained a BA in Fine Art.

"Based in the Derbyshire Dales, the basis for my work is the landscape and the coastal areas of the UK. Whether it is an upland moor, old workings being slowly reclaimed by the landscape, field systems, the weather, light, a rugged coastline or a busy harbour, my work is informed mainly by just being in a place. Paintings become a composite of many of these elements.

I work intuitively and usually with minimal sketching or planning. When I do sketch, it is rarely as a means of reference for a painting as I prefer the work to take on a life of its own. A painting will go through many stages of being worked and re-worked, with layers being scratched and scraped back to reveal remnants of the earlier process, with elements added and removed until the composition and balance of colour, line and form is resolved."
