Andrew is interested in the relationships of colour and contrast, as well as the interplay of forms and gestural mark-making. He works intuitively with layers being scratched and scraped back to reveal remnants of the earlier process, with elements added and removed until the composition and balance of colour, line and form is resolved.

He seeks to capture the essence of a place or situation, simplify the form and colour of what he sees. The images are invariably made using sketched ideas and references from memory. Elements within a painting are based on fleeting images, imagination, and experiences, which perhaps aren't visually representative but rather encapsulate a particular slice of time.

Andrew studied Graphic Design at Sheffield and later Fine Art at Bradford. Now based in Derbyshire, and a frequent visitor to Cornwall, Andrew finds a huge amount of inspiration from both of these places.
