It is with much sadness that we share the news that Richard Bawden passed away on the 31st of May.

Hattie Bawden has requested that the show continue as planned. We have been exhibiting Richard's work since the gallery opened back in 1988 and this show will be a fitting tribute to a much-loved artist.

Richard Bawden was a true artist and craftsman. He was a painter, printmaker and designer with an accomplished career spanning over 60 years.

Richard was born in 1936, son of the well-known artist Edward Bawden CBE RA, and studied painting, printmaking, and graphic design at Chelsea, St Martin's and the Royal College of Art. Richard exhibited widely throughout his career and has work in public and private collections including the Tate, the V&A, the Royal Collection, and the Government Art Collection.

His work has a graphic, linear quality and a strong sense of craftsmanship, which translates naturally into many forms. These have included book illustration, murals for restaurants, engraved glass, church windows and doors, a poster for London Transport, mosaics and furniture.

Richard has exhibited at Bircham since its opening in 1988 including an 80th birthday exhibition alongside his friend and contemporary - the late Richard Batterham.

The show will include watercolours, linocuts, etchings and a cast-iron Dodo seat.

Robert Greenhalf is one of the country's leading wildlife artists. He is dedicated to observing birds and animals in their own environment, capturing the freedom and movement of the wild. Field sketching is the basis for all of Robert's work. Back in the studio, oil paintings and woodcuts are created illustrating his love for wildlife in the landscape.

Jennifer Amon makes vessels with a timeless simplicity. Hand-built from stoneware clay, using the pinch and coil method with only a few simple tools, the process is slow and rhythmic allowing each vessel to grow organically. Surfaces are then coated with thin layers of slips and glazes. Led by nature's palette, Jennifer uses subtle tones with occasional flashes vibrant colour.

Nigel Lambert has earned international recognition for his slip-decorated wood-fired earthenware. His thrown and altered pots combine bold contemporary shapes, with his unique style of decoration and a strong sense of function. Work is dipped in a white clay slip and left to dry before green, amber and clear glazes and blue oxides are added to achieve his signature look.
