Catherine Hills graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1993 with a Masters Degree in Metalwork and jewellery.
Inspired by natural forms, her work combines sensuous liquid shapes with smooth, crisp, highly finished surfaces. It is organic, whilst incorporating a high tech, science fiction feeling, where movement often plays its part. Oxidized silver is used in juxtaposition with yellow gold and coloured glass, or stone, to produce a striking colour contrast. The dark recesses, inside the hollow forms, create their own mysterious miniature world.
From her workshop in the centre of London, she creates one-off pieces and manufactures a batch range of jewellery in silver and 18ct. gold.
Catherine won the New Exhibitors Prize at the Chelsea Crafts Fair in 1995 and was a Finalist for the Carroll Foundation Craft Award in 1996. She was named, 'Meilleur Jeune Createur European' by Ateliers d'Art de France in 1996.
